Meet the Visiting Groups

Hackney Carnival wouldn’t be the party it is without inviting some very special guests. Here we list the additional carnival groups we’re delighted to be welcoming to the Hackney Carnival parade!

Who? Baque de Axé’s is a London based band performing Maracatu carnival percussion music and dance from Recife, Brazil. They are a community of professional and hobby musicians and dancers drawn from a variety of backgrounds celebrating Afro-Brazilian Maracatu carnival traditions.

Who? Faggamuffin Bloc Party’s mission is to increase the visibility of QTIPOC Pride at carnival. They are all about staking a claim to carnival, affirming their identities and showing pride in the visibility of Queer People of Colour in London.

Who? Launched in Hackney in 2016, the London Academy of Irish Dance students love to perform and are on a mission to prove that Irish dance is available to anyone who wants to learn!

Who? Multidisciplinary artists who create large kinetic sculptures and carnival costumes utilising the human body in the art form of ‘Mas Making’, Masquerade or street theatre. Created by designer, Clary Salandy and structural engineer Michael Ramdeen, they develop costume design techniques and construction to heighten the understanding of Carnival Arts.

Who? CAMF (Carnival Arts & Masquerade Foundation) was founded in October 2011 following the merger of Notting Hill Mas Bands Association (NHMBA) and Greater London International Mas Association (GLIMA). It is the membership organisation representing and supporting UK carnival costume bands

Who? Paraíso School of Samba is the only organisation in the UK whose artistic direction is by artists who grew up in the Rio de Janeiro samba community and which closely follows the authentic Brazilian School of Samba structure and objectives, including all its main cultural elements.

Who? UCOM (United Colours Of Mas) pride themselves on their commitment to the historic traditions of mas and fusing them with modern design and techniques. They constantly evolve and innovate when it comes to costume design and concepts, customer service, road experience and exciting themes.
