A celebration of Bloolips radical drag theatre company, formed in 1977 by Hackney-born performers Bette Bourne, Lavinia Co-op and others. An interview and Q&A with Lavinia, a display of Bloolips posters, and other artefacts and a staged reading of extracts from Bloolips scripts
An interview with veteran co-founder of Bloolips, the radical drag theatre company formed in 1977. Lavinia Co-op aka Vin Fox still lives in Hackney and the event will consist of an interview with him sharing his extensive memoirs of the London gay and drag scene of late 60s and early 70s, meeting Bette and the rest of the group and founding Bloolips, their many shows and his time in New York from 1991, working in night clubs and performing two solo shows, before returning to London in 2010 to perform in further drag shows in night clubs and other set ups. The event will pay tribute to the other members of Bloolips, especially those no longer with us, and will be recorded for addition to the Hackney Archives and Unfinished Histories collections. It will be accompanied by a slide show of Bloolips posters and photographs, many of them especially digitised for this event. We are planning to transcribe at least one Bloolips script, an extract/s of which will be performed as a staged reading by actors.
